A 330
by Alvar Aalto
Helsinki, Finnland 1937 (Re-edition)

height: 23 cm, diameter: 17.5 cm
(15 cm the narrow orifice)

A 330, also known as 'Kultakello' or 'Golden Bell', was designed for the restaurant Savoy, Helsinki. It is made of one single polished brass sheet. The light cone is reduced because of its narrow orifice. However, combined with the perforated ring that builds a fine light crown, the A 330 creates a unique ambiance. Alvar Aalto used this lamp as a prototype for future lamps created by him, such as for example the A 330 designed in the 1950s or the A 808 for the National Pensions Institute, in Helsinki.
